Anise-forward but gentler than star anise. Warm, fresh, and surprisingly versatile — fennel seeds belong in Italian sausage, Indian dal, roasted vegetables, and after-dinner digestive rituals.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Fennel seeds are a study in delightful contradiction: they taste like licorice but aren't sweet. They're warming but also refreshing. They're used in Italian sausage and Indian pickles, in Chinese five spice and French herbes de Provence. That versatility comes from a unique aromatic profile — anise-like and bright, complex but clean, warming without being heavy.

Toast them for a minute or two in a dry pan and the flavour transforms: the anise note softens and a warm, nutty sweetness emerges. Chew a few seeds after a meal — it's a practice observed across South Asia for centuries, and for good reason. They're as satisfying as they are functional.

HOW TO USE

  • Toast lightly and add to Italian pork sausage and meatballs.

  • Use in dal and Indian lentil dishes with mustard seeds and curry leaves.

  • Add to roasted vegetables — especially carrots, beets, and sweet potato.

  • Include in fish spice rubs and Mediterranean marinades.

  • Chew a few seeds after a meal as a traditional digestive.

AYURVEDIC NOTE

Cooling and sweet in Ayurveda, fennel is particularly balancing for Pitta. Traditionally used to support digestion, reduce bloating, and refresh the palate.
